Citation provides a structured system for researching a topic, recording bibliographic information necessary for proper references, and keeping notes organized, documented, and easily searched.

Often students select topics for research projects that are generally of interest to them personally. Citation helps them develop a sense of "ownership" of this research - and lets them see how continuing research can further one's expertise in an area.

Citation lets students build a personal database with their own research efforts on issues that are of interest to them - letting them add to research sources and findings as they move through coursework toward the thesis writing process.

Researching a topic on a continuing basis, building one's understanding - a process that will become invaluable in the professional world - becomes a basic part of a routine with Citation.

Teachers can require that students submit Citation datafiles along with their papers, and include call numbers, links to library records or websites with sources Helps teachers identify intentional plagiarism incidents, - it is easier to find papers sold on the internet using sources cited and the information provided in the Citation datafile.

Following Citation's ABCs, students won't lose bibliographic information on sources, & then invent (or omit) info on sources. When a bibliographic record is added, students can simply click the Add Note button to write a notecard. Notecards added with Citation are automatically "stamped" with CiteKeys that help students cite the source properly.

Citation makes it easy for instructors to store information on required readings for different courses, as well as supplemental readings lists - and then easily generate course handouts; using Citation, instructors can link bibliographic records to lecture notes, full texts of articles, handouts, internet versions, library records.

Submitting articles to different editors, with differing requirements for references, is easily managed with Citation.
